New Recent Publication

Our work, Plant Oil-Based Acrylic Latexes towards Multisubstrate Bonding Adhesives Applications (authors Kirianchuk, V.,  Domnich, B., Demchuk, Z.,   Bon, I.,  Trotsenko, S.,  Shevchuk, O. Pourhashem, G., Voronov, A.) is published in Molecules (MDPI)Special Issue “Natural Polymers and Biopolymers III”

This Special Issue is prompted by the increasing attention that the field of “green polymers” is receiving. It presents cutting-edge research works focusing on the use of bio-resources for polymeric materials and demonstrates how natural polymers and biopolymers, with their interesting and original properties, are destined to replace and outperform oil-based polymers.

Undergraduate Students take part in Summer Research Programs Poster Session

USURE student Mariia Usiichuk and NSF REU “Green Chemistry” student Hailey Lynch present their research posters (entitled Plant Oil-Based Latex Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives and Synthesis and Characterization of Coconut Oil-based Monomer and its Polymers, respectively) at NDSU Summer Research Programs Poster Session.

This annual symposium features the research of more than 60 undergraduate and high school students who are working at NDSU over the summer.

Summer Undergraduate Students join our group

Hailey Lynch, undergraduate student majoring Chemistry at Austin Peay State University will work for 10 weeks as Summer Undergraduate Researcher NSF REU funded Green Chemistry program. More information can be found https://www.ndsu.edu/scimath/green_chemistry_reu/

Hailey’s research project at NDSU relates to the synthesis and characterization of pressure-sensitive adhesives from plant-oils based latexes. She will be working under the supervision of CPM graduate research assistant Bohdan Domnich.

Mariia Usichuk, B.Sc. from Lviv Polytechnic National University joins our group in June to work for 10 weeks as a summer undergraduate student (USURE program). This program provides an opportunity for Ukrainian students to carry short research projects at NDSU and get research experience in the field of polymer science and polymeric materials. For more information about USURE program, please visit https://lpnu.ua/en/news/applications-submission-usure-program-usa-polytechnic-students-and-postgraduates-continues

Mariia’s research project at CPM relates to the synthesis and characterization of coconut oil-based acrylic monomer for free radical polymerization and further investigation of new monomer polymerizability, including in latex synthesis She is working under the supervision of visiting researcher Dr. Vasylyna Kirianchuk and graduate research assistant Tetiana Shevtsova.

Kateryna Rudich Joins as Visiting Short-Term Scholar

Kateryna Rudich joins our group to work for five months as Visiting Short-Term Scholar. She got her BS and MS in Chemical Engineering from V.N. Karazin National University in Kharkiv, Ukraine. At Coatings and Polymeric Materials Department, Kateryna is co-supervised by Dr.Mohiudin Quadir and will be contributing to the project related to synthesis and characterization of amphiphilic polymeric nanocarriers for drug delivery applications.

Prior to NDSU, Kateryna was working as QA Chemist in Pharmaceutical Company «Zdorovye», Kharkiv, Ukraine

Oleh Shevchuk returns as Visiting Scholar

Dr. Oleh Shevchuk from Lviv Polytechnic National University joins our group in February to work for about 4 months as Visiting Short-Term Scholar.

Oleh is employed works as Associate Professor at Department of Organic Chemistry of National University Lviv Polytechnic, Lviv, Ukraine. This will be his 5th visit to NDSU, whereas he has been visiting Voronov’s group in 2016 – 2021. Oleh will be working on synthesis and characterization of adhesives based on plan oils-based monomers while helping graduate students with their other projects

Svitlana joins as Visiting Scholar

Svitlana Trotsenko who was working as Research Associate at Department of Physics, Institute of Experimental Physics of Free University Berlin, Germany joins our group in February to work for about 5 months as Visiting Scientist .

Svitlana got her BS in Chemical Engineering from Lviv Polytechnic National University in Lviv, Ukraine and worked as Research Associate at Department of Organic Chemistry of the same institution before she was hired by FU Berlin.  This is Svitlana’s first time at NDSU. Her current research project at NDSU relates to synthesis of plant oil-based latex adhesives using miniemulsion process with a goal of developing latexes formulations feasible for industrial applications .

Ukrainian Summer Undergraduate Student joins our group

Bohdan Domnich, B.Sc. from Lviv Polytechnic National University joins our group in January 2021 to work for 10 weeks as Ukrainian Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (USURE) fellow. Bohdan was selected to participate in this program during Summer 2020, but his arrival has been delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019 Bohdan got a degree in Chemical Technologies from his home institution. His research project at NDSU relates to studying highly biobased latex adhesives with a goal of testing resulted polymeric materials on multiple substrates.

In accordance with signed Memorandum of Understanding between Lviv Polytechnic National University and NDSU, Summer Undergraduate Research Experience in USA (USURE) program for Ukrainian students is in its 4th active year.
