Sara Johnson, junior from Winona State University, and Julianna Nichols from Seton Hill University join our group end of May to work for 10 weeks as Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) fellow.
Sara is majoring Materials Chemistry & Composite Materials Engineering. Her research project at NDSU relates to study on thermoplastics based on plant proteins and various natural additives for applications in food packaging. At NDSU, Sara is working under supervision of Kristen Patnode.
Juliana is majoring Biochemistry. Her research project at NDSU relates to synthesis and characterization of camelina oil-based latex adhesives using (mini)emulsion polymerization. At NDSU, Julianna is working under supervision of Vasylyna Kirianchuk.
SURE program is operated by Coatings and Polymeric Materials Department to provide undergraduate students (usually juniors and seniors) the opportunity to experience a research environment and to encourage them to pursue a higher degree. Coatings and Polymeric Materials offers this program each year. The program serves in educating the next generation of specialists in the field of polymers and coatings, as many students who attend this program go on to graduate school at NDSU, in this department.
